Eldoret, Kenya – February 15, 2025 – The University of Eldoret transformed into a vibrant hub of innovation and intellectual fervor as it proudly hosted the much-anticipated National Intelligent Design Festival and Crossfire Competition! This extraordinary event brought together a kaleidoscope of talent from universities, secondary schools, and even junior secondary schools, creating an electrifying atmosphere that left attendees buzzing with excitement and inspiration!

From the moment the festival kicked off, it was clear that participants were not just here to compete; they were ready to dive deep into the captivating world of intelligent design. Learners exhibited an impressive understanding of complex concepts such as irreducible complexity, complex specified information, protein folding, and the intricate design embedded in DNA. Their dynamic presentations captivated the audience, who were treated to a whirlwind of creativity and scientific inquiry!

The festival’s atmosphere was electric, with the auditorium filled to capacity, drawing not only enthusiastic students but also faculty members and community leaders eager to witness the brilliance on display. Participants passionately showcased evidence of design in nature, making compelling arguments that intelligent design provides the most convincing explanation for the origins of life and the universe.

One of the most thrilling aspects of this year’s festival was the diverse range of creative expressions showcased. Participants dazzled the audience with spoken word performances, infectious rap battles, choral and solo poetry, engaging articles, heartfelt narratives, and even captivating skits! Each performance not only entertained but also educated, weaving complex scientific ideas into artistic forms that resonated deeply with everyone in attendance. A standout skit explored the complexity of the cell, while a powerful spoken word piece highlighted the beauty and order found in nature, earning thunderous applause from the audience.

Adding to the festival’s allure, a team of journalists from Kibabii University, spearheaded by the dynamic Dr. Kennedy Simiyu, graced the occasion with their presence. The journalists provided live news coverage, conducting interviews with participants and attendees, capturing the spirit of the event in real-time. Their reports brought the festival to a wider audience, showcasing the excitement and innovation taking place at the University of Eldoret.

The judging panel was a who’s who of esteemed intelligent design researchers from various institutions of higher learning. Among them were Prof. Donald Otieno, a prominent biologist from the University of Eldoret; Dr. Ben Mudogo, a linguist from Masinde Muliro University; Fr. Martin Tanui, a dedicated religion specialist also from the University of Eldoret; and Dr. Morris Mwatu from Alupe University. The chairperson of BioCosmos Kenya, Dr. Richard Ochieng, and coordinator of the students’ club Dr. Lencer Ndede, graced the event, adding to its prestige and excitement.

“The enthusiasm here is contagious! It’s incredible to see such a diverse group of people come together with a shared passion for understanding our origins,” exclaimed Simon Sez, a participant and biology major. “This festival is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of knowledge and creativity!”

The Crossfire Competition was a particular highlight, where teams faced off in lively debates on the merits of intelligent design versus other theories of origin. The spirited exchanges kept the audience on the edge of their seats, with cheers and applause erupting as participants delivered compelling arguments backed by scientific evidence.

As the day progressed, participants were rewarded for their hard work and creativity. Each team walked away with beautiful and prestigious prizes, including gleaming trophies, intelligent design-branded T-shirts, stylish pens, key holders, and notebooks. In addition, cash prizes were awarded to the top performers, making this festival not only a celebration of intellect but also an unforgettable experience for all involved.

“This was an exceptional event, one of a kind,” remarked Dr. Ochieng. “We’ve set a high bar for future festivals, and I can’t wait to see how we can grow this initiative in the coming years!”
