On March 8, 2025, BioCosmos Kenya hosted a pivotal event that marked a significant step forward in the dissemination of Intelligent Design information. The Chair of BCK welcomed participants to the workshop, emphasizing the crucial role that summer seminar alumni will play in advancing the theory of Intelligent Design.
Induction of Regional Coordinators
The induction session provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the background, management, and objectives of BioCosmos Africa and BioCosmos Kenya. The mandate of BioCosmos Africa and its daughter foundations in East Africa, including BioCosmos Kenya, BioCosmos Tanzania, BioCosmos Uganda, and BioCosmos Rwanda, was thoroughly explained. Regional coordinators were briefed on past and planned activities of BioCosmos Kenya and BioCosmos Africa.
The mandate of the Public Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, and Conferences (PLSWC) committee was detailed, highlighting the role participants will play in courtesy calls and public lectures. The preparation process for public lectures was covered extensively, from creating PowerPoint presentations and sourcing information to the actual delivery of lectures. Participants were encouraged to read widely to become well-versed in ID information and be prepared to deliver public lectures when called upon.
Public Relations, Publicity and Marketing
The importance of steering BioCosmos Kenya into the public limelight through print media and digital platforms was emphasized. The role of two summer seminar alumni who regularly write for local newspapers was highlighted as crucial in spearheading this task. Participants were guided on how to recruit and register members for BCK, nominate colleagues and friends for Africa Focused Seminars and International Seminars on ID, and subscribe to and engage with BCK’s social media handles, that includes Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
BioCosmos Kenya Student Club (BCKSC)
The concept and role of the BioCosmos Kenya Student Club (BCKSC) in promoting the theory of Intelligent Design were explained. Participants, some of whom are club patrons, were briefed on the constitution of BCKSC and the procedure for establishing a BCK club in any institution. The activities undertaken by BCKSC were also highlighted.
Responsibilities of Regional Coordinators
Regional coordinators were assigned several key responsibilities, including:
- Establishing working zones within their regions.
- Participating in subcommittees without holding a board position.
- Providing guidance to subcommittees on the optimal master plan for their regions.
- Identifying and enlisting alumni of summer seminars on Intelligent Design and other ID training within their regions.
- Assisting in identifying and mapping institutions of interest and initiating initial contacts.
- Acting as the primary contact person for the foundation in their regions.
- Conducting follow-ups on BioCosmos Foundation activities.
- Participating in courtesy calls, public lectures, and other foundation activities or events.
- Monitoring the achievement of set objectives and providing guidelines for participation to ensure successful implementation of foundation initiatives.
Guidelines on Specific Activities
Courtesy Calls:
- Activities during courtesy calls include presentations and requests to Deans of Students and student representatives to provide information on BioCosmos Student Clubs.
Public Lectures: Public lectures serve multiple purposes, including:
- Raising awareness among scholars in various academic institutions and forums.
- Promoting the appreciation and incorporation of the theory of Intelligent Design into course units or as standalone programs.
- Connecting with faculty members interested in joining BioCosmos Tanzania Foundation and recruiting new members.
- Establishing new BioCosmos Tanzania student clubs in academic institutions.
The public lectures sub-committee should ensure:
- The number of speakers does not exceed three, including the regional coordinator.
- Specific topics are presented.
- A team is planned to undertake a panel discussion at the end of the lecture.
Activities during Public Lectures:
- Introduction and overview.
- Presentations on proposed topics.
- Distribution of educational resources.
- Membership drives.
Induction of Student Club Members, Officials, and Patrons/Matrons:
- Training and induction of patrons, club officials, and members.
- Roles of patrons, office bearers, and members of student club chapters.
This event marked a significant milestone in the efforts of BioCosmos Kenya to advance the theory of Intelligent Design and foster a community of informed and engaged scholars and educators.
