The best place to build a great society is in the classroom, and the best way to shape the future is through young minds. Young minds can be molded and reshaped, and a great society is one that liberates these minds from indoctrination, allowing them to explore the farthest reaches of thought and imagination. BioCosmos Kenya offers young scholars the chance to explore alternative perspectives on the origins of life and the universe through the lens of Intelligent Design—a scientific theory that asserts “many features in the universe and life are best explained by an intelligent cause.”

Engaging junior school learners can be challenging, especially when introducing complex scientific theories and including students from diverse traditional and religious backgrounds in sensitive topics such as origins, which can sometimes be misconstrued as having religious connotations. To address this, BioCosmos Kenya engages young scholars at the club level. The BCK Student Club team has translated complex scientific concepts into youth-friendly activities such as poems, spoken word performances, rap songs, skits, and interactive debates. These activities provide junior secondary school students with explanations of Intelligent Design in a manner that enhances their knowledge and understanding of the theory.

The BCK Student Club team has designed age-appropriate, inclusive, and engaging activities that encourage meaningful participation. Meeting with young minds in familiar and enjoyable spaces—outside the formal classroom setting—makes learning about the theory of Intelligent Design a more enjoyable experience for the students.

The free and friendly club environment helps to disrupt traditional power dynamics, allowing junior scholars to draw support from the approachable club patrons. This support boosts their confidence in science and aids their learning from nature.
