On February 25, 2025, BioCosmos Kenya, led by Board Chair Dr. Richard Ochieng’, delivered an engaging and thought-provoking public lecture on the Theory of Intelligent Design at Laikipia University. This remarkable event brought together staff and students, sparking insightful discussions on the intricate question of Origin of Life and the Universe.

Exploring Intelligent Design

The lecture offered a comprehensive exploration of the Theory of Intelligent Design, which suggests that certain aspects of life and the universe are best explained by purposeful design. Dr. Ochieng’ and his team expertly guided the audience through the complexities of this theory, emphasizing its importance in the broader conversation about the origins of life and the universe. Attendees were encouraged to critically engage with the notion that life and the cosmos might reflect the work of an intelligent causation rather than random processes.

Keynote Lectures

Two main lectures were delivered:

Dr. Ndede introduced participants to the theory of Intelligent Design, highlighting various theories that attempt to explain the origin of life and the universe, and demonstrating why ID theory provides the best explanation. The tenets of ID theory were thoroughly explained.

Prof. Otieno discussed the role of DNA, particularly the 98% previously considered “junk.” He explained that studies have shown evidence of intelligent casusation in DNA, outlining the functions of what was long regarded as junk DNA.

Student Club Concept

Dr. Lencer Ndede explained the concept of the BioCosmos Kenya Student Club (BCKSc) and its role in promoting ID theory. The constitution of BCKSC and the procedure for establishing the club in a university were detailed. Activities undertaken by BCKSC were highlighted, and participants appreciated the club’s role in spreading ID information and mentoring students. A resolution was made by the University to establish BCKSc Laikipia University Chapter immediately.

Interactive Discussion

Following the lectures, a plenary session for questions and answers was held. This interactive session prompted numerous questions and discussions on the topics presented. Facilitators engaged in a round table discussion, addressing all questions and concerns raised by participants and providing further insights into many areas of ID theory. Participants were informed that the public lecture marked the beginning of a long-term relationship between BioCosmos Kenya and Laikipia University, with ongoing discourse encouraged beyond the lecture.

Conclusion and Deliverables

The event concluded with several agreed-upon deliverables:

  1. Establishing BCKSc Laikipia University Chapter through initiating the process of registering the club with the Dean of Students office.
  2. Nominating interim officials to oversee the establishment and smooth transition to substantive officials.
  3. Encouraging interested faculty members to register for the international summer seminar on ID.

Prof. John Kanjogu, Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research, and Student Affairs, proposed that BCK consider hosting a one-day ID paper presentation conference specifically for Laikipia University. Each participant received a copy of “The Little Book of Creation,” with additional copies provided for the library.
